The Hotel Oakland Village is excited to announce a new program which provides nourishing meals to needy residents and local community members. The meals are provided to participants daily from Monday to Friday. Before receiving the meals, there is an educational component along with time for social interaction. During a recent distribution, the on-site Village dietitian, Ms. Yan, provided information about “How to Choose Healthy Foods” and showed a healthy portion plate to demonstrate healthy portion sizes. After this education course, participants then had a chance to speak with each other. By including a social component, the program not only helps nourish participants, but offers a chance to reduce social isolation, which is the main goal of the Hotel Oakland Village. As many studies show, social isolation and loneliness lead to a myriad of health risks. Always remember, Participation = Good Health!
